Hornbeam Hedging 125-150cm Bare Root
Pre-order information
This is a seasonal product that can only be dug from our production fields when the tree/plant has gone dormant and the temperatures are correct. We are expecting this item to be available from mid October 2025.
Please note: Hornbeam plants are sold in bundles of 10 and must be added to your cart in multiples of 10.
About These Plants
Our hornbeam hedge plants are bare-root, meaning they are dug directly from the field without soil around their roots. This bare-root method is an economical way to establish a beautiful, traditional hornbeam hedge without the higher cost of potted plants. Each plant measures between 125-150cm (4-5ft) tall.
Planting & Care
-
Timing: Plant your hornbeam hedge as soon as possible after purchase to avoid root drying.
-
Spacing: For best results, plant 45cm apart in a single row, or 60cm apart if planting in double rows.
-
Root Health: We recommend applying Rootgrow at planting to stimulate secondary root growth and improve plant establishment.
-
Protection: In areas with deer or rabbits, protect your young plants using spiral tree guards to prevent damage.
Growth & Maintenance
Hornbeam hedges typically grow 30-45cm (1-1.5ft) per year once established. Regular trimming is advised to maintain your hedge at your preferred height and shape.
Year-Round Privacy & Aesthetic
Hornbeam is a native UK species, widely appreciated for its classic serrated, rounded green leaves. Unique among many deciduous hedges, hornbeam retains its golden-copper brown dead leaves throughout most of the winter, providing added privacy and visual interest year-round. These leaves only fall when pushed off by new spring growth, helping your hedge stay dense even in colder months.
Why Choose Hornbeam?

-
Visual Privacy: Offers an excellent privacy screen all year due to its retained winter leaves.
