Hawthorn Hedging 7-8ft (210-240cm) Rootballed
Pre-order information
This is a seasonal product that can only be dug from our production fields when the tree/plant has gone dormant and the temperatures are correct. We are expecting this item to be available from mid October 2024.
These root balled Hawthorn bushes are a quick fix to creating an instant native hedge. These are field grown plants that have been regularly trimmed throughout the year to encourage thick and dense growth. They all come root balled, that is to say they are dug out of the ground with a ball of soil around the roots wrapped up in hessian. They are dug to order so that they will arrive with you as fresh as possible and can be planted in the hessian wrapping which will quickly rot away. These root balled Hawthorn plants are all sold as 7-8ft (210-240cm) in height so will create an immediate native hedge screen once planted.
Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) is also known as Quickthorn. Hawthorn will be found in almost every farm hedge in the UK being a native tree variety. With its sharp thorny branches and white fragrant flowers, it is a fine sight to see in May when flowering is prolific. It will produce red berries (Haws) in the autumn which are popular with birds. Hawthorn will grow on many different soil types and is a good all rounder deciduous native hedge species when planted as part of a mixed species native hedge.
A pure Hawthorn hedge is relatively uncommon and it is mostly found as part of a mixed species native hedge and will grow extremely well with other species such as Blackthorn, Field Maple, Spindle, Beech, Dog Rose, Hazel and Hornbeam. Native hedges such as this can be found across much of the UK.
These root balled hawthorn bushes should be planted at 45cm spacings (18 inches) to give instant impact but could be planted further apart and they will quickly grow into each other and form up as a hedge. The product photograph shows these plants spaced at 45cm spacings (centre to centre)
