Euonymus Green Spire Topiary Ball
Euonymus Green Spire is a relatively newcomer to the world of topiary. As Box (Buxus sempervirens) has been wiped out across much of the UK, alternative varieties have been emerging. Euonymus Green Spire is very similar visually to Box and can also be used to create topiary balls. Whilst it does have a slightly more upright habit than Box, it can be used to good effect to train into ball shapes.
It is worth mentioning that although it behaves in a similar manner to Box, it is not generally quite as hardy and can be prone to frost damage in prolonged cold weather. Whilst this may make the tips of the plant look scorched, it will usually grow out of it the following spring without causing any lasting harm to the plant.
