Hornbeam Half Standard Beehive 300cm Rootballed
These are trimmed and shaped specimens of Hornbeam, Carpinus betulus. Each tree has been shaped into a half standard beehive. This is to say that they have a clear stem of approximately 100cm with a 200cm head on top.
We would strongly recommend making an appointment to view these trees and choose the ones that suit your individual project.
Each tree comes rootballed, which is to say that they are dug from our fields with a large ball of soil wrapped in hessian with a wire cage surrounding. Each tree will weigh in the region of 150-200kg, so this must be factored in when planning to plant these.
These are ornamental topiary pieces for those wishing to add structural design in the garden. We would recommend that they are trimmed at least twice a year to keep their dense shape.
Carpinus betulus is a native English deciduous tree that is highly popular due to its dense growth and the fact that it retains many of its dead leaves on its branches over the winter. It will withstand most soil conditions, and will even thrive on heavier, wetter clayey soils.
