Hornbeam Hedging 8-9ft (240-270cm) Rootballed
These mature hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) plants, standing 8-9ft (240-270cm) tall from the root ball, create an instant, dense hedge for immediate screening. Regularly trimmed over several years, they form a thick screen that will continue to fill out in the first growing season.
-
Root-balled for value: Grown in the field with roots wrapped in hessian and plenty of soil. Best planted in colder months with proper watering in the first year.
-
Traditional UK native: Hornbeam’s bright green spring leaves turn golden-copper in autumn. It retains dead leaves through winter, adding extra privacy year-round.
-
Easy planting: Plant in a single row, spaced 45cm (1.5ft) apart for best coverage.
Ideal for fast, natural screening that adds seasonal beauty and lasting privacy.
Hornbeam trees are well suited to heavier soils but if you are planting during the drier months of the year, it is important to water them properly during their first year after planting. This is best done using leaky hose which is cheap, easy to install and highly effective. See our Accessories page for more details.
