Pre-order information

This is a seasonal product that can only be dug from our production fields when the tree/plant has gone dormant and the temperatures are correct. We are expecting this item to be available from mid October 2025.

Please note that these Hawthorn are sold in bundles of 25 so they must be added to the shopping cart in multiples of 25.

Planting bare root Hawthorn hedging plants is an economic way to plant a native hedge without costing a fortune if you can spare the time for these plants to reach a greater height. These plants are all 80-100cm tall and come bare rooted, that is to say that they are dug straight from the field and are sold without any soil around their roots. These plants should be planted as soon as possible after purchasing to avoid the roots drying out and damage occurring to the hedge plants.

Sold in bundles of 25, Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna), also known as Quickthorn, is a budget-friendly way to plant a native hedge. These 80-100cm tall, bare-root plants are dug directly from the field and should be planted immediately to avoid root damage.

Key Benefits:

  • Native & Hardy: A staple in UK hedgerows, Hawthorn is known for its sharp thorns, fragrant white flowers in May, and vibrant red berries (Haws) in autumn.

  • Wildlife-Friendly: The berries attract birds, making it an excellent choice for a wildlife-friendly hedge.

  • Versatile: Grows well in various soil types and is commonly used in mixed-species hedges with plants like Blackthorn, Field Maple, and Dog Rose.

  • Seasonal Interest: Enjoy beautiful blooms in spring and colorful berries in the fall.

Planting & Care:

  • Spacing: Plant 45cm apart in a single row or 60cm apart in a double row for a denser hedge.

  • Soil: Suitable for a wide range of soil types.

  • Protection: Use Rootgrow to enhance root development and spiral tree guards to protect from deer and rabbits.

Why Choose Our Hawthorn Hedging?

  • Affordable: A cost-effective way to plant a traditional native hedge.

  • Easy to Establish: Simple planting and care instructions for quick growth.

  • Wildlife-Friendly: Provides food and shelter for birds, enhancing biodiversity.
