Pre-order information

This is a seasonal product that can only be dug from our production fields when the tree/plant has gone dormant and the temperatures are correct. We are expecting this item to be available from mid October 2024.

These large Holly hedge plants are all 6.5-7.5ft (200-225cm) in height and are heavy duty plants that have been properly root balled, that is to say that they have been carefully dug up from the field with plenty of soil around their roots, wrapped up in hessian. These plants represent extremely good value for money and are an economic solution if you are looking at planting a solid and bushy holly hedge at a good height to give immediate effect once planted. These plants are shown spaced at 2ft (centre to centre) and we would recommend this as a good planting distance between plants to give immediate effect and allow your new hedge to provide an instant screen.

Holly (Ilex Aquifolium) is also known as Common Holly or English Holly and is a very traditional hedging plant having been cultivated for many centuries and being native to the UK. It can be clipped into a dense and prickly formal hedge or allowed to grow more informally. It can also be cut back heavily to rejuvenate an older hedge.

With its prickly green foliage and vibrant red berries, Holly is synonymous with making Christmas wreaths and other festive decorations.

Wild birds favour Holly for nesting sites and its berries are a useful additional food source in the colder months.

Holly is not the fastest growing hedge plant and one can expect 6-9 inches of growth a year. We recommend planting these large Holly hedge plants at a spacing of 2ft (60cm) between plants in a single row (as shown in the picture).

Root balled Holly is tolerant of most soil types although it does not like waterlogged soil. It also grows quite happily in full sunshine and also in partial shade.

More information about planting a large Holly hedge can be found on the Holly hedging category page.
