Privet 5-6ft (150-180cm) Rootballed
These 6ft Privet hedge plants are an effective way to establish a Privet hedge at a good height to give immediate effect. These plants have been properly root balled in the field meaning that their roots are well contained in plenty of soil with hessian wrapped around them. Being root balled rather than container grown, these plants represent good value for money but should only be planted in the colder months of the year and watered properly in their first year after planting. These plants are all sold as 5-6ft (150-180cm) and most of them are nearer to 6ft (180cm) in height.
Privet is relatively quick growing and one can expect up to a foot (30cm) of growth a year if left untrimmed. It forms a dense semi-evergreen hedge with oval shaped green leaves and produces white highly scented flowers in the spring and looks good in formal situations.
It can be grown as a small hedge of 3-4ft (90-120cm) in height but will be equally happy if grown as a 6ft Privet hedge to give that all important eye level privacy.
A Privet hedge will need to be trimmed annually in the spring or autumn as you would with any other hedge.
We recommend planting these Privet at 1.5ft (45cm) apart (although the privet in this picture are shown at 2ft apart which would also be an acceptable spacing).
Privet is tolerant of most soil types although it does not like waterlogged soil. It also grows quite happily in full sunshine and is also shade tolerant making it versatile for a number of different situations.
