Wildlife Loves Hedges

Evergreen and deciduous hedges including Conifers and Laurel hedge plants are a haven for birds and small mammals providing highly desirable nesting sites, as well as shelter from excesses of weather all the year round. Conifer hedges are particularly good havens for little birds escaping from birds of prey. The density of a well clipped hedge offers protection from larger nest raiding birds such as magpies and jays.

Why not try counting the varieties of birds that you see coming and going in your hedge in spring time? You’ll be surprised at how many you see and most of them will raise as least one brood of chicks a year in your hedge….right under your nose.
