Portuguese Laurel 7-8ft (210-240cm) in a 25lt pot
These 7-8ft Portuguese Laurel hedge plants are an effective way to plant large Portuguese Laurel (Prunus lusitanica) hedging to form a dense barrier without waiting for a long time. Being container grown, these Portuguese Laurel will quickly establish themselves in your garden representing good value for money. These plants are all sold as 7-8ft (210-240cm) in height. they were all trimmed back hard in the autumn to encourage good amounts of bushy growth this year and they are currently looking fantastic.
Portuguese Laurel is relatively slow growing and one can expect up to a foot (30cm) of growth a year if left untrimmed. It forms a dense evergreen hedge with dark green leaves and produces a proliferation of small white flowers in late spring and looks good in formal situations.
It can be grown as a small hedge of 3-4ft (90-120cm) in height but will be equally happy if grown as a taller hedge of 6-7ft (180-210cm) to give that all important eye level privacy.
A Portuguese Laurel hedge will need to be trimmed annually in the spring or autumn. We recommend trimming in the spring before a new flush of growth.
Many people choose Portuguese Laurel as alternative to Yew, Leylandii or Laurel as it is faster growing than Yew (and still looks formal) but not as fast growing as Leylandii or Laurel.
Portuguese Laurel is tolerant of most soil types although it does not like waterlogged soil. It also grows quite happily in full sunshine or in partial shade making it versatile for a number of different situations.
