Portuguese Laurel 3ft (90cm) in a 7lt pot
These small Portuguese Laurel hedging plants are an economic way to plant a Portuguese Laurel (Prunus lusitanica) hedge using plants that are dense and bushy and will thicken out into a useful hedge before long. Being container grown, these Portuguese Laurel will quickly establish themselves in your garden representing good value for money. These plants are all sold as 3ft (90cm) in height and come in a 7lt pot full of roots to help quick establishment.
These small Portuguese Laurel hedge plants are relatively slow growing and one can expect up to a foot (30cm) of growth a year if left untrimmed. It forms a dense evergreen hedge with dark green leaves and produces a proliferation of small white flowers in late spring and looks good in formal situations.
It can be grown as a small hedge of 3-4ft (90-120cm) in height but will be equally happy if grown as a taller hedge of 6-7ft (180-210cm) to give that all important eye level privacy.
A Portuguese Laurel hedge will need to be trimmed annually in the spring or autumn. We recommend trimming in the spring before a new flush of growth.
We recommend planting these small Portuguese Laurel at 2ft (60cm) apart (as shown in the picture).
Portuguese Laurel are tolerant of most soil types although it does not like waterlogged soil. It also grows quite happily in full sunshine or in partial shade making it versatile for a number of different situations.
