Lime Tree Tilia Platyphyllos (Standard Tree) 300cm (10ft) Bare Root

These bare root large leaved Lime trees are all standards and create a striking addition to a garden and can be a highly effective way to add a larger feature to the garden. These are Tilia platyphyllos being the large leaved lime as opposed to Tilia Cordata, the small leaved lime.  They are a good all round native deciduous tree much loved by wildlife.

These standard Lime trees are all bare root, that is to say that they are field grown and have been lifted from the field for sale without any soil around the roots. They should, therefore, be planted as soon as possible after purchasing to avoid their roots drying out and can only be purchased during the colder months of the year. They are all at least 300cm (10ft) tall although most are in fact taller than that. Trees of this size should be planted using tree stakes and ties to help prevent them from blowing around too much in their first years of establishment until their roots have become properly settled.

Lime is a traditional tree for planting in formal and semi formal situations.  It grows well in various soil types and is an excellent choice for pleaching and also pollards well. Avenues of pleached or pollarded Lime trees are often found in French villages and look highly attractive.
